Comedy King Umer Sharif

 

Umer Sharif is a legend who will be remembered for his services in the field of comedy and for his humility and generosity. Born on April 19, 1955 in Karachi, he started his career at the age of 14 as stage performer. Initially he was known as Umer Zarif but he changed his name to Umer Sharif. Umer Sharif became very popular in this period. He has many famous stage dramas on his credit. His stage dramas were recorded in videotapes and were rented like movies in that period which was main reason of popularity of Umer Sharif. “Yes Sir Eid and No Sir Eid”, “Bakra Qiston per” and “Buddha Ghar pe Hay” are few of his renowned plays in that period.

Umer Sharif was one among few who recognized need of changing times and molded his content according to time and situation. His present mindedness and strong wit made him engage people of caliber in interesting conversation. He hosted many shows on TV in which he interviewed people from all professions. His good sense of humor was loved by audience. He was invited as a guest judge on Indian comedy show “The Great Indian Laughter Challenge”. Umer Sharif won many awards and is recipient of Tamgha- e- Imtiaz as well.

Umer Sharif founded a trust in 2006 to enable health services to deserving people free of cost. He participated in number of shows raising donations for humanitarian causes. He has brought smiles on the faces of people for 50 years. He was a great person who feared for his life hereafter. In one interview host asked him what he is afraid of in life. To which he answered that I am scared of grave as it’s the one which will tell us about how we spent our lives. May Allah grant him forgiveness and accept his efforts that he did for humanity. Ameen

He will be buried in  Abdullah Shah Ghazi Mazaar in Sindh according to his will, but he will live in our hearts forever.
