In the light of Quran and Ahadees
Eid Milad un Nabi is one of the greatest occasions for Muslims all
over the world. Muslims rejoice and celebrate birth of Holy Prophet Muhammad
sallalaho aleh e wasalam. Purpose of this series of blogs is to establish
connection of celebrating Eid Milad un Nabi with references from Holy Quran,
Ahadees and from companions of Holy Prophet PBUH.
Allah
Almighty says in the Holy
Qur’an:
“In the bounty of Allah and His mercy,
let them rejoice it is better then what they gather". (Yunus,
58)
This verse of Sura Younas tells us that we
should celebrate when we receive blessings and mercy from Allah. Prophet
Muhammad sallalaho alehe wasalam is undoubtedly the greatest blessings for
mankind. As is stated in the verse below:
“And we sent not you but a mercy for all the
worlds” (Al’Anbiyaa’, 107)
Allah
Almighty says in the Quran: remind them
of the day of Allah (Ibrahim,5)
Hafiz Ibn Kathir and Qadi Shawkani writes that:
“the day of Allah” refers to the day on which Allah Almighty has done a favor
to mankind. For example, the freedom of Bani Israeel from the slavery of Pharaoh was
great favor of Allah on Bani Israeel. Likewise, Milad of the Prophet Muhammad
sallalaho alehe wasalam is a “day of Allah”, therefore we should remember and
observe it. Hafidh Ibn Rajab writes that: It is recommended to fast on those
days on which Allah Almighty has sent blessings on us. The greatest favor which
Allah Almighty has bestowed us with, is the sending down of the Prophet
Muhammad sallalho alehe wasalam. Allah Almighty says in the Qur'an:"
I have favored among nations and sent to you a Prophet from among
you".
Imam Muslim writes that the Prophet Muhammad
sallalaho aleh e wasalam was asked about the fast on Mondays, which he used to
observe, the Prophet replied “This is the day of my birth”. This proves that
the Prophet Muhammad observed fast on Mondays to show gratitude for his birth.
Imam
Bukhari writes that: when Abu Lahab died, someone from his household saw him in
a dream, they asked him what happened in the grave he said “I am being punished
severely, but on Mondays, I get water from my finger with which I freed
Thuwayba, (Bukhari, “Kitaab-un-Nikaah”) Abu Lahab who was uncle of
Holy Prophet PBUH , freed the slave women Thuwayba who brought to him the news
of the birth of the Holy Prophet PBUH. Afterwards he turned against the
Holy Prophet to an extent that there is a sura in the Holy Quran about his
punishment in both this world and the world hereafter, even he was rewarded by
having his punishment reduced on Mondays only.
It is
food for thought for us that if a non believer like Abu Lahab is given some
relaxation because of the happiness that he showed on the birth of the Holy
Prophet how rewarding it would be for believers to rejoice birth of the Holy
Prophet PBUH.
