As Celebrated by Companions of Holy Prophet and Great Scholars of Islam
First blog of Milad un Nabi
sallalho alehe wasalam proved celebrating Milad with references from Quran and Ahadees. This blog intends to show
significance of celebrating Milad in the eyes of sahaba and eminent scholars. Hazrat
Abu Bakr Siddique (Radi Allahu Anhu) who was a very close companion of Holy
Prophet PBUH said "Whosoever
spends one dirham on the birthday (Moulood) of the Prophet (sall Allaho alaihi
wasallam), he will be with me in Jannat." (An Ne’matul Kubra)
Hazrat Ali (Radi Allahu Anhu) said, “Whosoever respects the Milad Shareef and is a means of motivating a Milad gathering, he will take from this world the gift of Imaan and he will enter Jannat without any questioning.” (An Ne’matul Kubra)
Hadrat Abdullah Ibn Abbass Radi Allahu Anhu reported that one day at his home he was narrating incidents that took place at the time of the birth of Holy Prophet PBUH (both before the birth and at the time of birth) and the audience was listening and moved by what they were listening and were sending durood upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad Mustufa Salla Allahu alehe wasalm that moment our Beloved Prophet Sayyedina Muhammad Mustufa Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam came to them and said , " My Intercession for you is made accepted" (Kitabul- Tanweer, p25)
Great Imam of Hind Hazrat Shah
Wali Ullah Rehmatullah aleh narrates his experience in the following words: I
took part in a gathering of Milad inside Makkah where people were sending
Darood and Salam upon Prophet PBUH and were mentioning the incidents
which took place during the time of the birth of Holy Prophet and those which
were witnessed before he was appointed as a Nabi (such as Nur (light)
eliminating from Bibi Amina RA, she seeing Nur, woman proposing to Abdullah RA
on sight of Nur in his forehead etc...) suddenly I saw Nur to have covered
one group of people, I don’t claim that I saw this with my physical eyes, nor
do I claim that it was spiritual and Allah knows the best regarding these two,
however I felt some divine presence and I also felt mercy to be descending
along. [Fuyoodh al Haramayn, Pages 80-81]
The Poet of the East, Allama Muhammad Iqbal (Rahimuhullah) said: Milad un Nabi (salallaho alaihi wasalam) is amongst the sacred days for Muslims. According to my understanding it is very crucial for nourishment and treatment of human minds and hearts, Hence it is necessary for Muslims to keep in their sight the life and teaching of Holy Prophet salallaho alaihi wasalam. In the following three ways they can celebrate Milad:
1. The first way is of sending Darood and Salaam which every muslim should do. I have come to know about Arab world that if two people get into a fight in market then the third says loudly: Allah humma Sali Ala Sayyidna wa Barik Wassalim, hearing this the fight stops immediately, this is the power which darood holds
2. The second way deals with Gatherings i.e. Muslims should gather in great number and one person out of them (i.e. leader) who is having thorough knowledge about the life and conduct of Holy Prophet PBUH should mention it in detail so that the devotion to follow the ways of Prophet Muhammad PBUH awakens in hearts of Muslims.
3. Third was is that Prophet (salallaho alaihi wasalam) is remembered in such a way that our lives become practical examples of the teachings of Holy Prophet and we start experiencing the feeling which was there about 1300 years ago due to physical presence of Prophet (salallaho alaihi wasalam). [Asaar e Iqbal, Pages. 306-307]
These references show the true significance of celebrating Milad un Nabi sallalho alehe wasalm.
Note: Next blog will be on incidents that happened
at the time of birth of Holy Prophet PBUH.
