Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani R.A is spiritual head of all saints. He is “najeeb ul tarafen” Sayed which means both his parents were Sayed. His father Abu Saleh Moosa is from the lineage of Hazrat Ali through eleventh generation and mother Umul khair Fatima too is from the lineage of Hazrat Ali through fourteenth generation. Umul Khair Fatima was a very pious lady; she was a seamstress and spent years working and saving for her son’s education. Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani was born on 1st Ramadan 470 AH (March 23, 1078) in the town of Na'if in Gilan, Iran, and died on Monday, February 21, 1166 (11 of Rabi ul Sani). He was a Persian Hanbali Sunni jurist and Sufi based. All the four main orders of Sufism are headed by him. Qadriya order (one of the four main orders) is named after him.

 

 Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA) was sent to Baghdad for education when he was seven years old. As Baghdad was center of learning at that time. While preparing him for the journey, his mother gave him money which she sowed within the inner lining of his shirt. He was sent off with a large group of travelers. Along the way, a group of robbers attacked them and started looting. When one of the thieves asked Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA) if he had any money, he replied in the affirmative. However, the thieves were unable to find it. They presented the situation to their leader who came forward and asked Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA) about why he was lying. Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA) told him that he was not lying and revealed to them that he did have the money but they were unable to find it because it was secured in the inside lining of his shirt, sowed by his mother. He went on to say that his mother had bid him farewell with the explicit advice to never lie. Leader of the group thought that this child is so obedient to his mother that he preferred not to hide his only savings from us and we are so disobedient to Allah that we are doing every wrong action from which He stopped us. The whole group left the illegal profession and reverted to ways of Allah. It was a story that happened when Abdul Qadir Jilani was only seven years old. He spent his life changing lives of thousands of people through his teachings and actions. Thousands of Jews and Christians accepted Islam through him.

 


He joined the teaching staff of the school belonging to his own teacher, al-Mazkhzoomi, and was quite popular with students.  He would teach Hadith  and tafseer of Quran, he had gift of gab with the help of which he was able to reconcile the mystical nature of Sufism. His followers celebrate Mehfil e Ziker and dua on every 11th of Islamic month as was practiced by him in his life. And 11th of Rabi us Sani is known as “Baree Giyarween Sharif” where his followers recite Quran, do ziker and pray for all the departed souls of muslims.
