Muhammad Zada Agarwal was a young and enthusiastic young man from Skhakot, Malakand Division. He was shot dead on 8th November, 2021 in front of his home, his age at the time of his death was 32 years only. People of his area protested to the extent that all state agencies and Provincial Government took notice of the incident. Social media was flooded with videos of his speeches and the ongoing protest with his dead body. Protestors were assured by CM, KP that his murderers will be arrested at earliest, after which they buried Muhammad Zada.

The long protest and its intensity compelled me to know who Muhammad Zada was and why was he shot. Honestly, watching his videos was an overwhelming experience on its own. A lion hearted who had the guts to call a spade a spade, spoke on burning issues without any hesitation. He was a social worker who worked for the betterment of people around him but his focus became alarming spread of drugs among youth when his two cousins fell victim to drug addiction. The effects of drug addiction on the future of his young cousins and on their family sensitized Muhammad Zada and he decided to wage a war against drugs. In his address to open court in mosque, he clearly mentioned that factors responsible for availability of these drugs are backed by administration. He mentioned that it’s a mafia that feeds all who can be hurdle in its easy supply to the youth.

He even challenged DC Malakand to check assets of his staff and see whether these are in accordance with their income. Muhammad Zada embarked on the mission of seeing a society free of drugs. He decided not to marry as he thought marriage would make him fear for his children and wife and he wanted to lead the mission of a drug free society without any fears.

Catching his murderers is no doubt a challenge for government as his struggle was not against a single person; it was against a mafia that has deep roots and strong support. The initial arrest of the two puppets that came up with ridiculous grounds for killing Muhammad Zada was strongly denied by his family. His family maintains that Muhammad Zada did not have any personal enmity ; his sole mission was a drug free society.

Although he is targeted for his sincere intentions but he has left many lessons for us. Life should have a purpose and time duration that we spend in this world doesn’t matter but the quality of our lives does matter a lot. Heroes like Muhammad Zada will always be a threat and hurdle for the ones who are ruining lives of others for their lust of money.
