The death of Ammar Farooq is a profoundly tragic incident that has deeply touched the hearts of those who possess the ability to feel pain. It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge that while this young soul may have found solace in a better place, the troubling reality remains that Humanity is left to rest in peace within the borders of Pakistan. Before we indulge into any debate on this matter, it is imperative that we grasp certain essential aspects that lie beneath the surface.

Ammar Farooq was in his tender years, he was a minor and a bona fide citizen of Pakistan. Consequently, he was entitled to certain fundamental rights, the denial of which raises poignant questions. The inexplicable imposition of collective punishment upon him and his family begs us to question whether such punitive measures are enshrined within our legal framework or constitution, and if so, do they extend their grasp to encompass minors? Equally perplexing is the disconcerting silence of Human Rights organizations regarding this tragic incident.

Some individuals have resorted to concocting narratives surrounding Ammar's ordeal, alleging that he suffered from an incurable disease since birth. However, a cursory glance at videos featuring his grandmother from a few days prior and his uncle's heartbreaking testimony from yesterday challenges the authenticity of such claims. One must ponder whether these concerned individuals have difficulty comprehending the language spoken by Ammar's grandmother and uncle. Ammar and his family faced relentless harassment by Punjab Police. They endured traumatic abductions that made the poor boy deeply scarred.

Perhaps the most disheartening aspect of Ammar's story is his denial of medical treatment in hospitals. It is disconcerting that even in our society, where compassion and empathy should be paramount, a young child was denied a basic right that is extended even to animals - the right to receive medical care. Besides, when few scholars suggested seeking treatment at Shaukat Khanum, did this recommendation inadvertently imply a denial of his citizenship rights?

In 2015, the world was shaken by the tragic incident involving Alan Kurdi, a young child who lost his life while attempting to flee his homeland Syria with his family. The haunting image of Alan's lifeless body on a beach captivated global attention, and it seemed as though a higher force implored the world to awaken to the profound crises of terrorism in Syria and the suffering endured by migrants.

Regrettably, some individuals are reluctant to acknowledge the gravity of the situation we face. But, we must remember that awareness often dawns upon us when adversity touches our own lives. Until then, let us strive to honor the memory of young Ammar Farooq and let the phrase "Rest in peace Humanity" serve as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for change and justice in our society.
